Information on the effects of Le Fort on lip width is not readily-available. While we typically see a conservative improvement in lip width in most Le Fort results, here we see an Alfaro patient who had a major improvement in lip width as can be measured by his Mouth-To-Nose width ratio. The ratio has improved greatly and is roughly ideal even accounting for the considerable increase in alar width as a result of the same Le Fort.
Intuition would tell you this is due to a Segmental Le Fort or some other form of expansion, though the surgical planning of this specific case to show otherwise, as well as a video of the patient 18 months later (can't be attributed to post-op swelling) can be seen here: https://www.institutomaxilofacial.com/ca/caso-clinico/wilfred/
What is the pre-requisite for such an improvement? Is it because he had genetically large lips with little maxillary support? Very curious.
