Every single other way of thinking/behaving is factually vastly inferior on all counts
It’s the best for the society (if everyone has their interest in mind, given them behaving optimally, it results in society becoming a place that best fits everyone’s needs)
It’s the best from the communication perspective (if two people help each other in exchange for something, it results in them both getting fair value for their deeds, while altruism leaves room for manipulation, abuse of good will, etc)
How not having such mindset harms the society:
The “treat others the way you want to be treated” just doesn’t work. If somebody kills you - you die. If you preemptively kill them - you live
The world doesn’t care about that rule, so it only limits your ability to preemptively solve threats
People voting in favor of black-hispanic muslim handicapped women in Vatican, instead of themselves.
Imagine you have 100 people. 90 healthy, 10 in wheelchair. All people in wheelchair vote for themselves, half healthy people vote for wheelchair people due to “empathy”. As a result, we have “Everyone must serve the wheelchair people” party with a majority vote
As a result, instead of system helping most people, it helps 10% of the people, which is bad for the societal good and is very similar to tyrannical corrupt government in a way of resource distribution
Tldr: Be egoistical or you’re braindead
