Elastics with Braces

Im 18 since july and got braces in march. I have a slight overbite and got told to wear the elastics to fix my overbite. I wore them for the first 2 months overnight but stopped after but he keeps asking me if i wear them and i always say yes. Should i wear them again since I heard it fucks with your maxilla or just keep on saying I wear them even if i dont?
