Both of them were lonely and mentally ill incels who only care about themselves. Both were tired of being at the bottom of social hierarchy and ended up declaring themselves by saying socially unacceptable things and murdering people. Both weren’t genius ideologists, only cared about themselves, but ended up becoming symbols for people of certain subcultures. They became symbols only because of a lucky coincidence, not because of their nihilistic views. They are both idiots
I think that the creators of this movie were inspired by Elliot Rodger, because this is not a classical joker. In previous films and comics he was a smart ass strategist, but in this movie he was a crybaby and loser
