I suspect they can get the same output with far less people because of tools like Github Copilot, they just didn't fire them immediately after the productivity boost. I'm guessing that's part of why the other tech companies have all been laying people off too.

This should be illegal, you can't just fire people like that!
In my country for example, the government has created more and more jobs in its institutions, to compensate for all the firings the private companies are now making and the companies are now taxed more to pay for these salaries. These people don't do anything there, just push papers, but I think this is the future - ultimately we will be back to the communist era, when all people worked for the state.
