Elon was ruthlessly bullied as a kid, and instead of having the normal adolescence experience, he got really into computers and remained an introverted loner through his teen years.

Now that he is the richest man in the world he discovered that it doesn't actually fill the hole inside, so he's reverted to living out the experiences that most of us get out of our system by age 15.

At age 50 he now needs to show every one that he can make penis jokes and say edgy political things and get lots of social media likes while sporting an undercut.

He could literally do whatever the fuck he wants at any time. He could buy anyone. He could pay 1000 comedians and musicians to personally entertain him for the rest of his life inside the biggest mansion ever built. He could turn a small third world country into a developed nation. He could effect real positive change in the world, more than any other single human living.

But instead, he still needs to impress those childhood bullies, so he's decided he wants to become a cool middle schooler who pwns people on twitter.

His products being so shit made everyone really jaded to his vision of futuristic tech. Tesla especially. The cars are so goddamn expensive despite the fact that Tesla took billions in taxpayer money in order to make the cars in the first place. Who gives a shit if the look nice. Who gives a shit if they don't use gas. I CANT AFFORD ONE. And that's Elon's vision of the future. Cool technology, made possible by drained middle class taxpayers, available only for the richest of the rich.

SpaceX is another black hole of taxpayer money with almost nothing to show for it. Oh Starlink can give internet access to anyone at crazy high prices? So why did my taxpayer money go into "innovating" technology that has been around for 20 years and that I can't even save money on? And SpaceX was of course funded by gutting NASA's budget, an agency most Americans view positively.

So you have this guy who has massively benefitted from the average taxpayer while providing them almost nothing, who turns around and has the audacity to act like he's an innovator or an entrepreneur or someone whose vision of the future we could trust. And on top of it all he wants this structure that is just completed divorced from what the average person wants. Elon wants workers to work 50 hours a week and praises China for working til 3 AM. He's incredibly anti-union. Meanwhile those of use who actually work want to work less and want union benefits.

He wasn't so outspoken about those beliefs until recently and likewise the average person wasn't so keen on leftward economics as they are today. Combined with his vision of the future being exposed as a total fraud. I think that is why his perception has fallen so far.

Elon musks vision is not possible without nuclear fusion. A working fusion economy could massively reduce cost of living, support large population growth and lay the economic and technological groundwork for real space colonization.

People talking about going to space now is like trying to industrialize without a steam engine. Its pointless and will only make society more poor and miserable.
