Hello everyone,

I am looking on advice on how to make a good career in engineering. I’m in the UK so we’re a bit fucked. Never the less I’m doing a degree so it’s too late to take back now.

Does anyone have any good career tips or good paths to do in engineering?

Thanks niggers

Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering
Are the two best paths

Chemical/Mechanical also very solid
(I’m mechanical for reference ).

Push super hard to get into offshore / field / travel / mining. Do not end in a desk job or you will be poor forever. You need to be out at the mines, the rigs, whatever.

Even with this strategy you need to save and invest aggressively early because there is no real progression.

You're British so North Sea oil rig it is. The last bastion of high incomes in a technical sector on your island, or rather off the coast. Therefore, petrochemical engineering

I don’t ever plan on being a slave and working with my degree.
I just wanna have a degree as a safety net if my business models failed .

Math, physics. Manufacturing, graphic communication are all key. English is very good too. Degrees are oversaturated and extremely inflated now. I honestly advise getting a trade instead

Simple advice is dont do engineering unless you know you are gonna be top 0.1percent in that specific field, thats how brutal it is currently, and gon get lot worse in future

Mechatronics is also solid but it’s a bit of a newer major
So I advise you to either stick with mechanical or electrical
As both are already very respected and prestigious.

What’s the strategy nowadays? Long term career in the same company or move around? Gen Z is moving around a lot so loyalty would be rare

yeah my two main choices were either electrical or mechatronic, i'll probably go with electrical but i have a flexible first year anyway to see what everything's about

Depends on country, in west currently there is still a culture of staying in a single company forever but in coming future that wouldnt be good option probably, time will decide that
