I know there's a lot of young people on here, and I was curious if anyone is interested in enlisting with their government's military? Like, when you turn a certain age, do you want to enlist? If yes, why so? If no, why not?

A good chunk of the people in the military don't ever end up seeing combat (at least in the US) but you technically have to be okay with the thought of possibly killing someone, I imagine. I have to assume that's the #1 reason why people don't want to, but I don't know for sure.

It’s a bit complicated, but basically you have first draft notice, and you then given the time to decide what unit you wanna go (or atleast try to) and a few months later you are in the army, doesn’t natter where.

You don’t choose at what age, at 18 you are in the army, end of discussion. they don’t care who are you and shit.

I'm from the US. And it would depend on several factors like the benefits I could provide to my family by enlisting. I believe each branch technically has it's unique list of benefits, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering that correctly or not.

I was in a bad spot mentally and was hoping the military would teach me discipline and shit like that. I didn’t really change my mind tbh I had to get surgery for my shoulder soon after I spoke to the recruiter

Yeah, if it wasn’t mandatory to be in the army here the country would be dead the day it was established (which is very sad unironically).

I sometimes cope and say “maybe until I will be in the army my country will destroy its rivals” but I know it’s not happening. It’s crazy to think that in less than 2 years I will be in the army.

If we look at the statistics of people who die in war vs those who don’t, those who die are in a very small percentage, so it’s fearmongering and it’s “fine” probably. But considering how many rivals my country has it’s absolutely terrifying.

Yeah its in sweden and for my age group they increased the amount this year by like 3x. Its not really mandatory but they send out a form which i did late 2024 and if you dont have any disabilities injuries and allergies and in good shape youll most likely have to travel to one of their facilities and test your intelligence and physical capabilities which is what i did. And my scores were good so now i dont have a choice.

Its 12 to 15 months and it helps you alot in the job market but im abit apsie so ill problaby get really tired of it after some time
