After 250k exposures to HIV(vaginal sex with a HIV positive) you're expected to get HIV. So 1 occurence every 250k exposures on average. That's a risk I'm willing to take.

In the situation you actually do end up getting HIV, there's also medication that completely suppresses the virus, making it non-existent in your body. You literally can't transmitt it to someone else at that point no matter how hard you try (assuming you're on medication). It doesn't show up on HIV tests anymore (as far as I know)

One thing I've heard about PrEP though is that you have to get tested for HIV every 3 months because if you actually end up catching HIV and you use PrEP it can have fatal consequences.
