We have no reason to believe the external world possesses spatial extension.

I. We know that colors only exist in the mind and not in the world. The mere existence of color-blindness is already evidence for this. But if we look at the scientific understanding of what causes color in our perception, it will reveal itself to be nothing but arrangements and motions of matter. These are causes of color, but not color itself. So color is a property of our vision and doesn't exist in the outside world.

II. Spatial extension, by the same logic, is something we're familiar with only through our senses. Our vision is extended and ~two dimensional. The cause of this extended perception could be of any nature - just like how the cause of color can clearly be supposed to be something lacking color entirely. The extendedness of our sense data could be a representation of a set of two or three variables of any kind, which imposing themselves on our senses, cause the generation of an extended impression.

III. If the outside world isn't extended, then physicalism loses it's foundation. What remains is the content of our minds, with which we're way more intimately familiar. There is nothing left but to suppose that the outside causes of the changes in our conscious mind are of the same nature. What other option is there, besides alluding to something with which we're unfamiliar?
