I think the meat ban will come in stages, in small steps, so people won't riot: first it will be big animals like cattle, then other mammals - sheep, pigs, goats, etc. These animals are smarter, show feelings so it will be easy to guilt-trip people into not eating them and approve their ban.
Then it will be birds: chickens, ducks, geese, quail, etc. - these will be a little harder to convince people they have feelings and suffer just as other creatures. Then it will be fish - the wild ones will probably be uneatable due to pollution and the farm raised ones too expensive to raise in a healthy sustainable manner. The only "meat" that will still be legal would probably be that from insects, larvae, worms, etc. and of course lab meat - this will most likely become the standard meat of the future.

Like they already do where I live. Meat is heavily taxed, it is about twice as expensive as in neighboring countries and my grandparents can't afford meat very often.

My grandfather seems to have alzheimers, he is speaking nonsense most of the time, it is really sad to see him deteriorate. We all thought it was just his old age and there is nothing you can do about it, however some time ago he got diagnosed with low levels of vitamin d3, iron, vitamin B6 and B12. (micronutrients found in red meat)

I know this sounds unbelievable, but now that he is getting these vitamins supplemented, his speech is way more coherent, his eyes look normal not desoriented like they used to look like. This could be a coincidence, but it is probably not.
