It's the way they raise kids. Asian parents rarely express emotions like love openly like other races do, and contrary to popular belief Asian parents do in fact love their kids, and they don't think of their children as a retirement fund. But, they are also very invested in the kids academics, that stereotype is most definitely true. Both things can be true at once, it's just no the culture that we express things with that much openness. I know you've seen the videos online of Asian kids saying that "My parents rarely say I love you, but I know they definitely do love and care for me.". It's just shown in different gestures other than words. For example, as trivial as it may seem, Asian parents love to cut and prepare fruit for their kids. This goes for East Asian changs by the way, I can't contribute as primary evidence for SEAmonkey families.
