Ever notice how nobody cares about bad characterization in anime insofar as the characters are all attractive?

Just recently finished watching the Beastars anime on Netflix which apparently is very popular. Granted it's a furry anime rather than just anime but whatever. Still, the point stands. Nobody ever seems to care about the shitty writing and bland characters insofar as they are pretty to look at.

And 90% of anime shows involving romance are the same. Shitty bland characters with good looks = Views & $

It's not even just anime, actually. The characters in lots of mainstream popular fiction would be considered obnoxious if they were depicted by ugly actors.

I don't watch anime but the general feel is that the "bad" characters give the show it's entertainment appeal and give a better character progression watching them change and develop.

People just want to see the hot bad person either become good or have a fun "love hate" relationship with the main protagonist.
