There is something paradoxical about the modern obsession with being “niche.” People increasingly seek out what is obscure in order to distinguish themselves from what is popular, yet the desire to be different itself become a kind of conformity. When the norm is to become ‘niche’ , that just makes everyone ‘nichemaxxing’, a normie.
