I think in that sense it's pretty much just a cope, albeit sometimes we need copes to deal with our own insecurities and troubles. In regards to betting everything you own though, consigning yourself to the idea that it's 100% true that there is no free will is just enabling your own downfall. I like to believe our lives are predetermined to an extent but we have some agency at all times in the present. Even if it's not real, the mere thought that it isn't real is still affecting that agency, and if it's truly all just impulses and inevitable mental output my life will have been utterly pointless regardless of what I was predetermined to believe.

Mostly agree with you actually, but luck or chance aren't real. Exogenous factors and coincidences are.

By luck I mean factors that you can’t control/predict
