Most people's brains just freezes and stop functioning when there is a sudden surge of adrenaline. It's a completely new experience so they don't know how to interpret it. When I was in the army we were taught how to control our instincts and move towards the danger instead of away from it and reinterpret it as combat readiness instead of fear signals. Normal people without training are easy targets. When you get hit with it. You have tunnel vision, heart starts pounding heart, hands start shaking and your brain goes blank.
