Bear with me as I take you 9 centuries ago to the story of brinjal/ egg plant which used to be a vegetable only available in South East Asia, it slowly moved to Persia and later Arab merchants took hold of it and went to introduce it to Spain and Italy.

At first Europeans JFLed at these Sands and nobody gave a shit. All the eggplants went to the gutter. They ordered a second batch and now the merchants made a plan. They made cultivation of egg plants exclusive to the kingdom palace only. Appointed security guards 24/7 to strictly guard the small farm and all the eggplants used to be supplied only to the King, ministers, high profiles and alike. This created curiosity among the public. “What is so special about it?”.

As few weeks passed by the merchants allowed the guards to take bribes so that few people can sneak in, steal it and the guards would look the other way. Egg plants were only sold illegally from there onwards as a “special vegetable” in the underworld. Months later they cultivated more and more egg plants as the demand increased and then was sold to everyone at a huge price.

Now what’s the takeaway by this? This story illustrates the manipulation of perceived value.

1. Take something common.
2. Restrict it.
3. Make access seem elite or forbidden.
4. Watch humans go feral trying to get it.
5. Then “grant” it back to the masses as a privilege.

The psychology is textbook scarcity marketing centuries before capitalism gave it a logo. This is exactly how modern day Rolex, LVMH and Hermes works.

But getting even more specific you can apply this to your personal life to build your own personal brand. Always make yourself seem more important than you already are. Everyone’s doing it and you’d be a fool to not follow it already. This sounds a bit cliche but as long as you are working and thriving you’ll truly get there one day.

All my cars are black and I’ve tinted my car windows to borderline illegal. I wear real but subtle jewelry on my semi - formal outfits. I make sure the watches and clothes are of better quality than the peers. Last seen/ ‘message seen’ features disabled on WP. I’ve stopped snaps and very minimal social media presence and postings on Ig. I am currently urging my dad to raise the fences of our house even higher, he doesn’t get it but making yourself a little more private in front of neighbours is a statement.

Nobody will question you about your tinted windows and high raised home fences, well once when they did it for me I replied ah man I hate sunlight on a cozy rainy night. They will understand the cue and you gotta be witty with it. Never directly say that you need mandatory privacy, just allow people to pick upon your indirect cues.
