I'm 24. I recently had a 31 year old obese fatass at the gym look at my physique and tell me "it's easy to stay in shape at your age, wait til you get to my age. You have to work so much harder to stay lean. You should've seen me at your age" as if we aren't just 7 years apart jfl. And then he just kept blaming it on his slowed metabolism.
The whole metabolism slowing down after 30 thing is complete BS. Our metabolism stays the exact same until around 60 years old. The reason many people start getting fat after they turn 30 is because they become lazy/physically undisciplined which can easily lead to gluttonous eating habits.
However, if you don't work out, something that will start to decrease after 30 is your testosterone. This decrease is mostly voluntary and can be overridden by just staying active, eating healthy, getting good sleep, etc.
This wasn't the first time I've had older fat people tell me stuff like this. It's pure cope. I would NEVER allow myself to get out of shape, and I'd bet my life on that just to prove to these oldcels that they're simply lazy gluttonous morons who decided to not maintain their youth fitness levels. The biggest copers are the morbidly obese ones, because the only way they'll ever get back to a normal weight is by undergoing surgery that would leave them with permanent saggy skin and gross scars (basically over for them). They have to cope by envying healthy people who took care of themselves all their lives.
