Did you ever read books as a child? I read a lot, normal stuff like Harry Potter or cool ones like Edge Chronicles. Anyway one book was my favorite and it always stuck with me, and it was called The Brothers Lionheart which is a well known Swedish book. Anyway I still remember it to this day because no children’s book was this dark and frankly also honest about how life works.

A boy who is 10 is sick and will die and is very afraid of it, but when a fire breaks out his healthy brother who is 13 saves him still even though it killed the brother who was healthy. Then he has no fear of dying because he will go to the after life and see his brother again. In the after life it is like a new world. Many things are good but some people are still evil and they fight battles with them together. Then one time the older brother gets injured and he won’t be able to walk again and his whole body will be paralyzed, and he doesn’t want to live like that. Then the younger brother carries him to a cliff on his shoulders and the book ends as he says he will never have fear again and he jumps off the cliff carrying his brother because he does not want to leave his brother alone and they hope they will go to another after life together.

So it was very dark for young kids and nowadays people complain about made up words like ableism bc they say it is offensive to say there is no hope if you get paralyzed and would rather kys . But of course it is only understandable and it is a good story about why people don’t want to live anymore sometimes.

So that’s why I have always remembered it. Maybe other people read other good books that they can share?
