Many wannabe actors would kill just to become a "character actor" - one that is specialized in certain types of roles: villains, henchmen, comic relief, crazy or eccentric people, etc., these can also make a lot of money, and their career is more stable than that of a leading actor who can be ruined after just one movie flop, when all the blame will be put on them.
So even if they become famous in that TV show for being the "small dick guy", they hope that this could somehow snowball into more exposure to them, other roles and projects, more opportunities, and eventually a big, successful career.
