This may seem like a dumb question, but does 1mL of filler from the syringe actually equal 1mL of additional volume in your face or is it more/less due to water absorption?

No, it is way more due to water absorption (y)

Any estimates on the ratio of injected mL to facial volume mL then?

Total guesstimate but from self injecting about that much filler a few times I would say it's about 2x or 3x the volume for the first 3 days or so, and then after that it reduces a fair bit, but still more than the filler volume since the filler will keep attracting water while in the body. With 1ml I would say there is still more than 1ml of total volume a year after injection but this depends on how aggressively a person's body breaks down the filler and the type of filler, and where it is used.
