The only reason they are still going is due to customs. Moogles, chocobos, Cids, Wedges, airships, names, Monster designs that are consistent through games so even if the game is bad people will still buy and play it because it has element from a previous game. Its kinda like Pokemon but more autistic because at least in Pokemon it makes some sense in universe in FF its literally fan service. Most sales of FF games come from dedicated fans, jfl if you think their sucesss comes from newcomers.
The only reason i even bothered with these games was because i didnt have a controller in my pc so i decided to play turn based rgps which dont require any skill to play. I found the minigames in FFX more fun than the actual game. And worse, they kept making turn based rpgs till like 2013, when you had games like Dark Souls out. And the fans wonder what went wrong. Doing 999999 damage with your attack was cool in the 90s early 00s but things changed. since.
