I start finasteride around October 2025 at 19yo, and was consistently taking 1mg everyday for 7-8 months with no perceived sexual side effects.
I was a virgin until around March 2026, until I found a fwb who I was consistently having sex with.
At first I had some problems getting hard/staying hard, but I chalked them up to nerves and they did eventually go away for the most part.
Fast forward to June 2026. It's a bit confusing of a story so all I'll say is that there was a 3 week period where I ran out of finasteride and had to wait those 3 weeks to get a restock.
By the third week, my erection quality/hardness was noticeably higher than anytime before that, never at that point had fucking felt so good.
I was trying to think why this would be, and then I remembered the finasteride. I spoke to my dermatologist (finasteride plug) about it and asked, "If I were to be expereiencing some sexual side effects from fin, would those side effects stop after around 2-3 weeks of stopping finasteride?" to which he said yes, they would.
I was never a mentalcel, I was a hardcore finasteride and forget again guy. Before this experience, I was completely under the belief that for besides a handful of unlucky guys, the people who experienced sexual side effects on finasteride were people who already believed they were gonna get them before taking it.
So now, I'm kind of lost on this topic. I've been a lil too nervous to start taking it again, especially since I recently broke up with my gf and have been hooking up with whores A.K.A using my penis a lot more. I'm really close to just sticking to topical minoxidil to keep my hair, even though I know this doesn't address the root issue.
Anyone been in a similar situation that can provide some insight? Is it possible my dick was getting harder simply because I was having sex 2-3x a day when I stopped taking fin? Or can I blame the finasteride? Anythings appreciated
