people talk about the Halo effect a lot and it’s definitely true

But in a professional / IRL / non romantic environment it isn’t that important. What matters more is that you fit a certain stereotype and vibe

What do I mean by this?

You can still be highly successful if you aren’t a 6’6 Chad with great hair or whatever.

for example, if you’re 60 and have a fat belly but you act like a grizzled unc you’ll be fine.

In the same way if you’re a super smart Asian guy and you look nerdy that could actually be a halo. Whereas if you try to look super hot that might not be as advantageous.

Or if you’re working in the military or a blue collar job having a shaved head or whatever and ogre features could make people trust you more.

I’m not saying not to looksmax but it isn’t as black and white. What matters is fulfilling a certain archetype if you care about the halo effect in that context. The point is; it isn’t black and white.

For sexual attraction it’s much narrower.

Is it similar to being neurotypical too? Cause you are trying to be like the stereotype to mingle with the population.

Exactly. Think of it like this:

If you’re a 45 year old boomer who wears flip flops, shorts and a polo that shows off your big belly and you’re Norwood 7 but you’re a manager or something and you’re funny and well adjusted you will have more friends and social acceptance than a 20 year old autistic 6’2 lean Looksmaxxer with great features who can’t hold eye contact

We used to call this congruency back in the day. It’s true for sure and it’s a big reason I’m having massive buyers remorse after my eye area fat grafting because while it’s more “PSL” and objectively better, I lost a lot of “cute” or “innocent” appeal from having prey eyes which is really more congruent with my personality than semi- hunter eyes which only make my resting bitch face even worse.

Although my personality (socially anxious, autistic) is awful anyway.

Yep, exactly. A feature may be superior on paper but because it doesn’t fit you it cooks your appearance. It’s like a girl with super cute, youthful and innocent features getting work on her jaw to make it super duper sharp, angular and projected.

Unfortunately as men we are also under pressure to conform to a strict, rigid beauty archetype (when it comes to “hard” features) and that’s why so many on here are faced with the reality of needing multiple and extensive surgeries.

Congruence for men mainly applies to soft features (softmaxxing) and style. Agree?

Yes, I agree. But I mean, if you’re a rugged guy then you should lean into that. Trying to use tinted sunscreen and have glass skin and the like will look odd in that sense.

Whatever makes you happy
