Overbite occurs due to improper position of skull bones, not teeth. Fixing your overbite with braces would have to mean pushing back the alveolar ridge to "align" the bite.

Main failo I have skull wise are extremely crooked teeth and a mild overbite. Mewing helps me align my bite to a more natural state, but the teeth are still very crooked.

get your bite fixed, then do braces to fix your teeth. The orthodontist will use a weaker/less tighter wire because no occlusion change is needed
