The issue is, how are you gonna verify that your gains are attributed to heightmaxxing instead of natural height gain. Therefore, we would need to have a study with control groups. But thats not gonna happen so you can only try and hope that it helps but I am almost sure that height is 100% genetic and that nothing we do besides severe malnourishment is gonna affect your height.
I think that those basketball player who were shorter compared to their peers where just more talented and worked harder to cope with the height difference and when they get tall, they got really good and therefore famous. Thats probably why we hear of those cases more in the NBA.5'7"
Ya that's a good question, but I noticed that often African-Americans are short until their late teens and then get their growth spurt, not just for pro basketball players but for others as well. I don't know why this is tho. It could also be possible that some NBA players used HGH or even something else to grow taller artificially.
