Let this thread be a space for people to share stories of forgiveness.

I recently learned about the concept of forgiveness. Personally, I'm struggling with forgiving certain people in my life. I realized that I started to feed on this negative energy of distrusting people and trying to win at life in spite of them.

I always thought of not forgiving those who've "wronged" me as something to be proud of and as the ultimate motivation. "Oh, you doubted me, backstabbed me, or abandoned me but look how successful I am." I guess it's kinda childish but it allowed me to push myself harder and perform better at school and sports.

I realize now that I can't go on like this much further. I think I need to let go of the past and forgive.

I'm still very much struggling with this concept and often find myself saying "that's truly unforgivable; how could they have done this to me?" I realize, however, that it is a journey. So, to help with the process, I think we could all enjoy such a thread where we discuss strategies to forgive and help each other.

I agree, I've been going through the same thing. I really don't want to forgive all the people who've wronged me but at the same time I don't think it's possible to succeed and be happy with all that hate in your heart.

Ngl this Ted talk wasn't too bad but ofc it's too mainstream. I think there's not enough emphasis on how success is often motivated by not forgiving.

Exactly. Recently, I had a realization that I'd achieved the things I wanted to achieve for a very long time but that I still didn't feel happy. I always carried over with me a wound of being perhaps spiteful.

Yeah spitefulness is the real issue here. I still feel bitter about how I've been treated in life, and even though I'm on course to achieve my goals and my life overall is good, I feel terrible most of the time. It feels like those people were able to disrespect and look down on me and won. They beat me because I wasn't able to get my own back. I want them to feel the same way I did and have done most of my life.

Exactly! But no matter how much more success I achieve, I feel like I can never really get back to them if you get what I mean.

Like I feel like I should be totally grateful but at the same time I still feel this need to take revenge all the time.

It sounds very cuck, others don't care if you forgive them but if it makes you feel better to believe that forgiveness is mutual then do it, there will always be people who will take advantage of that "forgiveness and help"

Yeah I get what you mean but isn't it the moral thing to do? I mean I guess I want to act moral so that's why I think forgiveness is an important step in that.

Sam is of course on topic here as always.

No, taking the morally right route is always preferable to continuing to be spiteful and not maturing at all.

Yep. They got away with treating us like shit. That's the part that hurts.

I know, so I guess that's why we have to learn to move on. It takes time and I find myself returning back all the time but it is, indeed, a process.

Forgivness is low T
You must hunt down those who wronged you and get revenge or else you will forever live with trauma

Real, life isn’t a superhero movie where you can forgive the villain at the end for all the crimes that they’ve committed, that same person that you forgive doesn’t share the same mutual feelings of remorse that you do

No, the whole point that it's not about who's wronged you but about your own happiness and sense of self-fulfillment.
