ON FORGIVING YOURSELF

a note to anyone still punishing themselves

One of the hardest things in life is learning how to forgive yourself for being the person who ruined everything.

You can forgive others for hurting you. You can understand why they did what they did.

But when you are the one who destroyed it all, when you are both the victim and the perpetrator, that is different.

You replay every wrong choice. Every moment you could have done better but did not. You see exactly how you sabotaged your own life, pushed away good people, wasted opportunities.

And you cannot blame anyone else.

Living with yourself becomes the punishment. Knowing you had everything and threw it away. Knowing the person you trusted least was yourself and you were right not to.

But hating yourself forever does not undo what you did. It just adds more destruction.

At some point you have to forgive yourself.

Not because you deserve it. Because you cannot rebuild while you are still tearing yourself down.
