Do this simple test. Touch your hyoid bone, it should be palpable, otherwise, you might not even have finished puberty, and then jut your jaw forward and you follow the hyoid bone's movement. When you jut, you will feel it move upwards, and your submental region will look better. When jutting, you are temporarily simulating forward growth (sure your mandible doesn't rotate, but you are effectively increasing the distance between your chin and your ears so it simulates that effect).

Most people will have similar amounts of hyoid tissue, just that it will appear better or worse based on the forward growth. A forward grown face will stretch the tissue, making the submental flat, while a recessed face will make all that tissue clump up in one small region, making your submental look horrendous. This is why you won't see a forward grown model with a bad hyoid.

ive seen people who have good forward growth with bad hyoids

Plenty of explanations:
- You could be wrong
- Apart from hyoid tissue, there are other factors that affect the submental. Fat and the presence of overgrown lymph nodes or submandibular glands being quite common.
- They carry more hyoid tissue than the normal individual
- I could be wrong

Mine doesn't move.
And don't jut, you can get tmj

Well yea. There are several muscles attaching the hyoid bone to the mandible. Obviously when the mandible is moved, the hyoid is therefore pulled. Hence why jaw surgery moves the hyoid up.
