I see your point and I will agree to some extent but there are still flaws in this line of thought i will demonstrate:I'd argue they are needed even more today than back in the day.
Back then, nature itself would remove those "extra men and women", but today they can survive since the enviorment is different.
But by raising their standards, by sexual selection those people don't get to reproduce
I understand that there is currently less natural selection due to living in a safe society , less threats and less hunter gatherer mentality but still alot of the hunter gatherer mentality remained just changed it's form into modern day hunter gatherer.
A point that i would want to emphasis is showing how our mating and our attraction patterns and still maladaptive and remained primitive , for example these needs for height and cheekbones and alot of physical attributes that are mostly relevant to old days remained and alot of the facial ratios have close to zero value to today society , there are alot of healthy individuals that are just removed from the playing field due to irrelevant standards , In todays society if we were really adaptive specie we would be attracted to personality traits mostly and inteligence because these are the most lethal tools humanity has to offer the physical attributes becide normal health indicators should be irrelevant but we are primitive specie and evolution is slower than our ability to develop technology and change
Alot of the attraction standards are just useless and primitive and barely able to predict actual offsprings looks / capabilities
Like alot of very valuable people in todays society are just being dismissed due to irrelevant attraction standards that no longer serve us
