1. if we had free will then we should be able to choose to stop having free will

2. this is clearly not possible

3. hence it follows we do not have free will

Yes, you can, in fact many people live their life on auto-pilot, they don't even think of what they do certain things, you can exercise your free will or not, it's your choice.

If you believe any instinct exists you don't believe in free will

why? since when is free will defined as being able to choose anything?

how would you define it
so if you go to the cupboard and you only have cheerios and raisin bran then you don't have free will because you can't choose fruit loops? is that usually how we think of free will?

i would define it as the ability to choose between options free of any immediate external constraint.

i find it retarded to consider a person constrained by their own nature. it's almost like saying that you weren't free to choose because of the choice you made

because that's not a constraint that exists in your head

i think it makes perfect logical sense. using the above example, I can't choose to have the decision between cheerios and raisin bran made by myself but not with my own input. that very much is an internal constraint

@Harold O'brien in another thread titled 'are u a determinist' u replied 'no the universe does what it wants' and in another thread u said '...because i have free will' im curious how these blend into your current world view

do you believe that the universe keeps making new decisions? that all possible decisions/situations already exist? that we seemingly have free will in some cases? im so confused 😢
