That's not what free will is about, it's about making choices...
Your choices are predestined by your hormones and genetic attributes. Both determines how you perceive past experiences and the conclusions you take from them, so they determine how you view your past, present and future experiences. There is no duality of "ghost" and "body" - you are one entity.

What else should "free will" be than the rational behind your decisions and choices in life?

This is the philosophy that I’ve been adopting. My Chad friend was simply destined for greatness and I was destined to be left behind. That’s all there is to it rly

They can influence you, but you can still use your free will to do what you want, it's not something that is active all the time, but it can be turned on and off as you wish - you can go with the flow, do what your instinct, hormones, etc. tell you or use your free will and make a conscious decision.

But what would that "free will" be in your view? If it's not the outweighing of options. Do you mean impulsivity and heavy emotional responses with that, in a way a monkey would react if you were to steal his banana?

If free will were to mean "not bonded to your natural instincts", it wouldn't exist. We are still driven by instincts, but with a more developed way of processing our actions to fulfill our needs, just like an animal would, based on its instincts.

What differentiates us from "animals" is our more developed brain - the prefrontal cortex allows us to control impulsivity in a more developed way, leading to making our rational with a heavier emphasis on future outcomes, making it seem that we would have an ability to go around fulfilling our current needs, which would be un-instinctual - when in reality we only compromise between fulfillment at the current point of time and a even greater fulfillment in future.

We cannot choose options that don't oblige our needs - every decision you make is emphasized on an advanced level of need fulfillment, which is nothing more than following your instinct.

It's not something you can turn on or off, but it's something that is within us, determined by genetic pre-compositions and your hormone household. We base our options, that lead to fulfillment, based on past experiences, which are judged within you by genetics and hormones - all the time in a new way, making it possible to regret decisions that seemed to maximize your needs in the past, but are viewed in a new shape or form right in this moment, leading towards a new conclusion.

free will is an illusion. you can make small decisions but the big picture will always be the same

It's also why they now have ozempic for obesity. Because they realise it's deeper than just muh "calories in calories out." Hormones and genetics play a big role even with this.

Let's say you arrive at a point where you can choose to go left or right...When you make the conscious decision which way to go, that's when you exercise your free will. Or you can just say "whatever..." and pick one randomly - this is how most people live their lives, they're like on autopilot and rarely use their free will.
