This is seriously one of the worst days of my life.
From the age of 10, I've had this group of 5 (including me), that I've preserved into adulthood, and they've all been some of my most loyal friends to this day.
We've all taken different paths, fucked up in different ways and done things right and wrong with our lives. I got into parties, became an acoholic and regular drug user and am now one and a half months clean, with things going up in my career; one of them was depressed for years for the death of his father, and is now regaining back his life; another has stayed healthy but changing careers too much and is just now finding his uni major, etc.
Well this guy in particular had everything figured out: outstanding dude, smart, funny, good job, great family etc. Then he met this girl who at first seemed great, but soon enough started acting out. After a year she was having frequent breakdowns, hitting him and even cheated on him once. We told him not to stay with her as she was unpredictable and dangerous, but he said he was in love. Yesterday, she came to his house drunk, tried to stab him (he got cut all over his chest), and jumped out of the window dying. According to him, he grabbed her by the arm and tried to stop her but it was useless. Now he's indefinitely in preventive prison until he's judged, accused of murder.
He has all the evidence to prove he didn't push her, but, because of how slow justice is he's probably going to be in jail at least a year before trial, and because of (my specific country's) horrible sexist violence laws, might lose and be in jail for 20+ years anyway, without evidence against him.
The dude who was doing best, got his life ruined just because of one crazy woman.
Ofc I can't be entirely sure he isn't guilty, but even the police told us everything points towards him being innocent, and can't do anything until trial.
The news outlets have framed the case as a sexist homicide already with no evidence, and everyone who doesn't know the situation is assuming he's guilty without any evidence. The way men are treated in these cases is egregious, and it's truly heartbreaking to ser my friend's and his family's life ruined.
I can't believe how one of the people that helped me the most getting my shit back together is now in jail and (very doubfully) accused of murder.
What a horrible day man.
