Useful/safe long term as an estrogen receptor antagonist or not? I was just looking into alternative ways to treat/prevent gallstones since I’ve had occasional gallbladder attacks since I was 18.
Apparently, estradiol, ERα agonists and SERMs such as tamoxifen increase the risk for cholesterol gallstone formation while antagonizing the estrogen receptor completely eliminated the stone-forming effects of estradiol in a study performed on castrated mice.
This had me thinking whether low to moderate dose fulvestrant might be a sensible way to antagonize estradiol at the receptor level without directly changing hormone concentrations through aromatase inhibitors, for example.
I was also wondering whether reducing estrogen receptor density/blocking it might have any positive or negative effects on androgen concentrations via a negative feedback loop.
