funny how there's a clear top 5 of all time for tv shows, when it's impossible to say the same for music, movies, athletes, sports teams etc

- the sopranos
- the wire
- breaking bad
- better call saul
- rome

you can't even try and pretend this list is wrong without coming off as a lame troll or an unadulterated cretin

would include true detective and GoT here, but it's just S1/S1-S6, respectively

it's gonna be the odd one out to most people because it's an older show

Tbh i js put that in cus its my favourite movie

it would probably make my top 10 too, but the 5 shows i listed just have 0 flaws

maybe my conclusion from the title is just low iq because there are much more movies and musicians/albums/songs than there are tv shows, tbh. i'm not exactly known for being super sharp

this, tbh. and bb is 5th on this list for me.

bcs #1. can't fucking believe i gave up on watching it twice because it seemed boring at the beginning. easily the best on-screen portrayal of a non-diagnosable mental defect most people are carrying of all time, and i'm not talking about the protagonist's brother

Rome is overrated. I think the actors playing Caesar and Augustus were phenomenal though.
I didn't like the fictional characters that the show revolves around much.

Sports is easy because successive generations keep surpassing the previous ones - at least at the moment.
Athletes are all faster and better than before for most sports anyway.

Music seems to be a lot more dependent on current trends and fads than films for some reason.
I don't know why but this always seem to be the case.

Maybe because a good story and characters are universally appreciated, regardless of when the film came out.
Music is a lot more about form than substance and form is highly dependent on the prevailing culture at the time.

I think there is a universal consensus about great films though.
You can look at lots of "best films of all time" and you will consistently see:

Godfather 1/2
Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
The Dark Knight
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Goodfellas
LOTR

among them for example and many others.

Trash, extremely overrated, breaking bad is way better, only redditors think BCS is some slow burn masterpiece. Worst ending of all time. Only redeeming character was Lalo.

Can confirm The Wire is excellent even better on second watch

Rome and no mr robot kys tbh

Rome has some great actors in it.
The guy who plays Caesar is honestly one of the best actors I've ever seen.
It's the fictional characters the show revolves around who let it down badly.

If Rome had just focused on being a political drama, it could have been great.

godfathers - yes
shawshank redemption - good, slightly overrated
pulp fiction - typical tarantincringe
the dark knight - surprisingly good for a superhero movie
the good, the bad and the ugly - yes
goodfellas - poor man's godfather failo
lotr - iconic, but infantile

i hate the generic butthurt incel shitting on normies, but i can't believe these are being regularly omitted from top N lists: once upon a time in america, full metal jacket, 12 angry men, no country for old men, there will be blood

extremely overrated: everything from tarantino, apocalypse now, citizen kane

---

honorary mention for tv shows/mini series: band of brothers

The sopranos
The leftovers
The wire
Mr. robot
Better call Saul/true detective s1

Non negotiable

I agree that some of these films are overrated but they appear in pretty much all the top 10-20 films of all time for almost any film guide.
There is some kind of consensus - not that I personally agree with it.

1883 is 10/10 too. probably the only muh strong female character show/movie that actually works.

in fact, my conclusion in the title is extremely low iq. almost like i was clickbaiting

It’s incredibly bleak and nihilistic but I can see why many here would like it. Turned me off though.

When a series gives more in 6-8 hours than a series that has 6 seasons of 20 episodes, it's to be considered. Based on a real life event or not, the series was dramatized and so it's a television series.

Nah it was good until they started with their blatant racemixing, blonde white girl with indian, and entire series based on this woman, it could have been so much better.

My profile pic used to be of Matt from the leftovers for about a year when i joined. Most of the forum is 15 year old kids, it's to be expected the leftovers doesn't appeal to them.

the part with the indian did feel a bit off and typically hollywood-fake, but i still watched it in one breath, ngl

could be the narration halo, i loved both her voice and looks

Shawshank redemption is easily top 5 of all time
It's better than the short story by Stephen King too.
For some reason, whenever he gets personally involved in film adaptions of his work, they all suck.

Wire Season 1 is excellent, so it shouldn't be an issue.
It's season 2 that tapers off a bit, from what I remember.
Then the rest is strong with the exception of the very last season - I think.

The best seasons are about the black gangsters though.
I just found the Polish antagonists in the second season really boring.

nothing made after 1990s compares to anything before. rome and the wire are the only watchable thing on that list. and wire is overtly muh socioeconomics jewish propaganda

a single episode of the night gallery destroys vince gilligan's entire lifes work

Weeds, Seinfeld, Two and a Half Men (S1-S8).
