Several large cross-cultural studies have generated sufficient data for evaluating these global personality predictions. Empirically, evidence suggests gender differences in most aspects of personality-Big Five traits, Dark Triad traits, self-esteem, subjective well-being, depression and values-are conspicuously larger in cultures with more egalitarian gender roles, gender socialization and sociopolitical gender equity.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27000535/

Contrary to predictions from the social role model, gender differences were most pronounced in European and American cultures in which traditional sex roles are minimized. Possible explanations for this surprising finding are discussed, including the attribution of masculine and feminine behaviors to roles rather than traits in traditional cultures.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11519935/

Overall, higher levels of human development--including long and healthy life, equal access to knowledge and education, and economic wealth--were the main nation-level predictors of larger sex differences in personality. Changes in men's personality traits appeared to be the primary cause of sex difference variation across cultures. It is proposed that heightened levels of sexual dimorphism result from personality traits of men and women being less constrained and more able to naturally diverge in developed nations. In less fortunate social and economic conditions, innate personality differences between men and women may be attenuated.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18179326/

In 37 countries across the world women cry more than men, "although there were some (mainly African) countries where the differences were minimal." Vingerhoets said. Countries that allow greater freedom of expression and social resources, like Chile, Sweden and the United States saw bigger sex gaps in sobs, and countries with more suppressive regimes, like Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal, reported a much smaller gap in crying, according to a 2011 study by Dianne van Hemert of the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research and colleagues in the journal Cross-Cultural Research.
https://www.livescience.com/51183-tim-hunt-why-women-cry.html

“Specifically, individualistic, prosperous, egalitarian, developed nations with higher gender equality had larger gender gaps in self-esteem than collectivist, poorer, developing nations with greater gender inequality,” said Bleidorn. “This is likely the result of specific cultural influences that guide self-esteem development in men and women.”

For instance, the gender differences were small in many Asian countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia and India, but were relatively larger in countries like the United Kingdom or the Netherlands.

What surprised the researchers most was, despite the cultural differences, the general trend across all the countries suggests that gender and age differences in self-esteem are not a Western idiosyncrasy, but can be observed in different cultures across the world.

“This remarkable degree of similarity implies that gender and age differences in self-esteem are partly driven by universal mechanisms; these can either be universal biological mechanisms such as hormonal influences or universal cultural mechanisms such as universal gender roles. However, universal influences do not tell the whole story,” said Bleidorn. “The differences in magnitude and shape of gender and age differences in various countries provide strong evidence for culture-specific influences on the development of self-esteem in men and women.”

TLDR - Gender gap in personality in modern "feminist" nations are higher than "sexist" nations. When gender roles are not enforced by society, people themselves start enforcing it in a far more harsher manner.

I mean in "certain" countries were women to behave in a non-accepted way, they would get stoned to death so it's more like being forced to adapt.

The same can we observed with career choice & gender. It’s known women in conservative Eastern Europe choose careers traditionally associated with males (like STEM) more than their more liberal Western counterparts, who tend to go for stereotypically feminime careers

First nobody gets stoned in Nepal, Thailand and India. But even in Saudi Arabia stoning is rare and requires extremely rigorous evidence.

Second but shouldn’t punishing women for not following gender roles would make the gender personality gap even more wider?

No, not really since they wouldn't simply want to get killed over it. Secondly, differences are supposed exist due to different brain wirings.

I think that has more to do with economic opportunities than the conservative nature of societies. I would like to see if it this difference in career choice and gender is also observed in a first world but somewhat patriarchal society like Japan.

Ok I skimmed thought it and have some thoughts

a) gender is a social construct

b) personality variation within genders is far greater than between genders so it's mostly irrelevant

c) it's not like the gap is widening both ways, male traits change while females stay roughly the same

d) I only see Europe + America mentioned, did they not look into wealthy eastern nations?

Source? that assertion is only true for certain personality traits not for all. And How does that makes gender roles irrelevant?

I didn't respond because I don't care and you're responses are retarded, like you genuinely seem to think the word "cope" is an adequate rebuttal

For point b) the study you linked just now has it in the abstract, I think that suffices as a source

For point d) you can look at the table in the study you linked just now and see for yourself that the gender differences are far greater in Europe and America than wealthy Asian countries like Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. It even goes on to say the the effect is attenuated in Asian countries. So in summary, you're small little brain just saw the word Japan and thought it helped you out when in fact the entire study is proving the random pont I made with intuition and no background knowledge. Fucking lmao

Thanks that's literally the point i'm trying to make
That modern hypersexualized feminist western culture makes the gender gap in personality too extreme. As a result it promotes the toxic masculinity it criticizes.

No restrictions of personal development, more accessibility, financial stability, more spare time, more individualism and blah blah blah
—> diverging extremes

How? Their conclusion is counter-intuitive, if anything

(Not that it matters since this is about as attention-worthy as looksmax dick size and height polls, and 80% of the academia is producing this shit to fulfill publishing quotas arbitrarily set by administrative councils)

You literally forgot the most important thing.

Hookup culture - Short term mating priorities gender dimorphism.

more accessibility, financial stability,
Doesn't makes sense since Japan and Korea was more similar to countries like Indian and Pakistan than the west in gender gap.

Their personalites and feelings are reduced to the constrainment, they can’t express their natural potential or diverge because society holds them back to the expected traditional values. In a more liberal society they can fully express themselves in the way they desire instead of being held back, and are able to maximize their personalities to what their natural potential dictates

I mean its a definetly a factor without sufficient accessbility, stability or time you can’t maximize your knowledge to its fullest potential. I would say it’s because Japan and Korea are more traditional, people have have high expectations and values in their society which limits them

Aka they don't have hookup culture to the extent west has.

Almost like feminism is about having rights and luxuries at the cost of male tax dollars and not about equality. Just remember when you see some office worker hoe driving a dope ass car she was only able to get that thru extracting resources from you personally

Because western whores can afford to get useless degrees. Women in the third world need to moneymaxx or starve.

Yes thats probably a huge part of it
That's probably the most important part. Short-term sexual success is highly correlated with sexual dimorphism both in looks and personality.

If we follow your train of logic then we can't even consider most of biology as science. I don't even think Darwin would be considered a scientist in your opinion since he was the first to talk about it.

Yeah this is true for my country, people think the balkans is some giga patriarchal place where there are these huge gender norms but that can't be farther from the truth, the US is way more divided in gender norms in reality from what ive seen how guys and girls act. Little girls here since childhood age play football with male kids outside and in general hang out, there isnt this severely divided norm where girls do enormously stereotypical hobbies and guys do as well. And in uni, half of STEM are women, and nobody thinks its special like muh girl power, its just considered a fully normal thing.

Sexism is still alive and well in western countries, the sexist measurements of gender equality are biased towards subjective laws like "reproductive rights", idk, they dont seem to measure sexism or power of gender norms influence.
Western women are taught about the realities of sexism, forcing them into female-safe occupations. Women get bullied hard IRL in blue collar, tech, engineering environments.

In 3rd world women face more sexism but are are gaslit into believing sexism isnt real

Debunked
