I was at a bible study thing and we were going over the tower of babel story.

Of course they just went and talked about god not liking humanity's hubris and deciding to put a cog in their works.

I thought it really resembles the rise and decline of civilisation. Babel slowly grew larger and more complex through the ingenuity of its people but after a while, the population become less organised and lost the ability to improve society or even maintain things so everything just collapsed.

God represents nature. Man suffered from his own success, he grew complacent and lost his incredible drive to improve, man evolved to live in constant struggle.
