I was in class today and we were discussing nature vs nurture

And my teacher brought up an interesting argument that IQ is hereditary but it doesnt mean you have a set IQ there is a genetic potential you could reach lets say your parents had an IQ of 87 and 101 you base might be something like 93 but with the right experiences and environmental factors you could reach 110 but the problem is you cannot go beyond this.

This theory can be applied to looks there is only so much environment can do for what you look like, but this whole theory brings a new argument if a man who had an IQ of 110 but had parents with the IQ of 87 and 101 had children what IQ would the children inherit his base IQ of 93 or the potential he reached? Apply this to looks a man with average looking parents grows up to have great facial development hes a PSL of 6 what will the mans kids inherit his facial development abnormally changed by his environment or the facial development passed on from the mans parents?

Can we really cheat our genes or does environment shape our final genetics?

Your teacher is completely correct. I just say this whenever IQ and its heredity is discussed: "IQ is 80% genetics and 20% environment".
It's something that can substantially change over 3 generations or less, even.
