3 Days Post-Genioplasty

For now just some pictures of the scan we did today. I’ll post before-and-after pictures once the swelling goes down and I’m not a complete balloon anymore. I dint post any soft tissue scans as I am so badly swelled. USA 3.6k cost.

My doctor originally planned for a 6mm advancement, but said if I needed more projection during surgery, he would give me additional forward movement if necessary. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make my follow up appointment today and had to postpone it until next Tuesday. I still had a follow up today with the other surgeon who assisted during the procedure.

I spoke with my surgeon over the phone, and he said he thinks everything went well and that I’m going to like the result. I went to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in my city instead of a plastic surgeon.

He’s been extremely confident throughout the whole process and keeps telling me not to worry because he thinks I’m going to look really good. Weirdly enough, that almost isn’t reassuring lol. I really wanted to go more in-depth about the movements, projection, and overall plan.

Mentally, I’m still really nervous about somehow looking worse :/

I’ll update again around the 2-week post-op mark with results, and maybe again after my follow-up appointment on Tuesday. Also I took some photos on my phone but idk my chin looks uneven with the cut and movement :??

3.6k in the US is absurd. How did you get it that cheap? What city?

I went to an actual oral and maxillofacial surgery/orthognathic practice. The genioplasty itself was about $1,550–1,600, and the rest of the cost was anesthesia and my pre-op appointment. The pre-op appointment was $296, and all of my follow-up appointments are free. My insurance is pretty bad, so I had to pay out of pocket.

Good luck man.
Just after in post op if mentally draining because of recovery but what I did was simply ignore how u look rn and don’t think about th result rn. You have no control over that anymore.

Keep in mind I had to wait 2-3 months before very liking my result. The time it took for 1. Unswelling from the procedure which you can only speed up with mild activity like walking 2. Undoing the bloat from eating goyslop during recovery 3. Fixing shitty colouring from staying inside during recovery.

Only then when I was lean I was actually fulfilled with my result

mirin, hopefully results are good

I have my genioplasty in ten days, this is a follown surgery from my bimax a few months ago. Any tips for the genioplasty, things to tell the doctor? I also chose a maxillofacial surgeon in my city, a very doctor.

The confidence being lowered is 100% normal, i felt the same way and worried about my post surgery results, but they devlier

MOVEMENTS?

MOVEMENTS?
Its unmeasurable, OP decided to post a post op picture of the CT with the skull rotated <90 degrees in contrast to 90~ degrees pre-op scan. Only the butcher knows how he moved his chin, though OP is probably around his mark anyway at forward advancement, maybe 1-2mm less.

Not to fearmonger him but my asymmetry looks better from ct scan and i have a visible one irl , hopefully it won't be visible for him

Bro If you made it through a bimax there is nothing I can tell you lol. I should be asking you questions.

The nurse doing my scans had to change the height and positioning of my face. When they take the scans, you normally bite down and rest your chin on a pad. Unfortunately, being only 3 days post-op, I couldn’t use the chin rest and had to bite down using only my two front teeth. Thanks for the edit

at the moment I honestly don’t see much visual asymmetry myself. The other front-facing scans they took also didn’t make it look very noticeable. That was definitely one of my worries too, though.

Right now, my biggest concern is that moving the chin forward 6mm may have been a bit too much for my personal liking. Somehow the added projection is making my face look even narrower to me. I was already very lean with somewhat hollow cheeks before surgery, so I’m hoping once the swelling goes down, the chin won’t look quite as projected and some of the definition in my lower face comes back.

I’m currently 6 days post-op and went in for a checkup today. The surgeon basically told me not to worry and that I’m going to look good. Honestly though, I still don’t really know how I feel yet. Right now it’s hard for me to look at myself and think I look good haha. Idk what is is but my face just looks longer and skinnier. I already have a narow face.
