I think it could work. The thing people get messed up is, he never claimed that thumbpulling actually moves the bone, his main mechanism for this is mewing (constant pressure of the tongue). He only uses thumbpulling to loosen the softer tussues around the palate and maybe somewhat the palate itself as it is much softer than the normal bones so that mewing has a bigger impact.
