It's been exactly 1 month since I started learning german. Everyday 2 hours of german. I watch videos to learn the basic grammar, listen to german music, watch movies and make notes when I hear something I dont understand and look them up later. I can already speak simple sentences and understand basic words.

My goal is to get to a b2 level within next year. I've heard b2 grammar can be done within a year but for listening and speaking unless you live in germany and speak german to people all the time it will be very hard but I like challenging things @deadstock @Beastimmung @LancasteR @NZb6Air @Akhi

Learning a new language isn't hard if you put in the hours* everyday

Big ups if that language shares similar roots and script with your native one.

Took me approx 3 months to learn perfect Bahasa Melayu. Within that same time period I also managed to learn decent proficiency is conversational Mandarin.

I'll be focusing on Mandarin after I am done with some work.

How hard would it be for a native English speaker to learn something like Arabic ? I’ve heard it’s difficult.

Why do you want to move to Germany bhai? Salary isn't that high. Taxes are almost 50%

Requires a lot of effort and repetition but I wouldn't describe it as "hard".

Learning something like Arabic would be much more taxing obviously because it is a different script, same with if you choose to learn Japanese or Mandarin.

I can write some Chinese characters but it took alot of practice.

No plans of moving to germany. I just wanted to learn a foreign language properly and not just winging it for credits and be done like everyone else does. There are quite a few people in my uni who are moving to germany tho. Mainly because of free education, healthcare and I've heard they give PR within 4-5 years. The wages are still higher than third world. If u can digest the taxes and language barrier doesn't seen like a bad deal to me.

Understandable tbh. Better than UK for Sure. Singapore would have been great but it's a financial capital very less Software Engineering jobs

I’m taking it at university. The grammar is awkward as a native English speaker, but the vocab is quite similar to English. A lot of words are the same for both languages. I’ve been taking it for 1.5 years and can get a good idea of what people are saying when I read German online. I suck at listening tho.

Easier for you tbh. Im learning german in school but the problem is that im also learning swedish and english at the same time, so I only get to learn 90 minutes of german each week.

Where do you find the german videos, do you just put "basic german learning" or something on youtube? Obviously id like to learn german really well but with 12 hours of languages in my schedule I really dont have the energy to atleast learn it in school

Maybe if I find some good videos I can learn it in my free time

I wouldn't say it sounds ugly but yes it does sound very harsh. A lot of sudden and abrupt sounds in between sentences

@Akhi why did you legit react the post that said there's no point in going to germany? I don't think it's bad. As long as you are in a white collar that is. If you are skilled and willing to hustle there's nothing like US but germany is not bad. Certainly much better than UK and France.

Germany offers free education, healthcare, and is generally more welcoming to English-speaking tech professionals, with a larger pool of companies that operate in English compared to France. In France, about 95% of courses are in French, and most people primarily speak French. Germany also has a significantly larger IT industry than France, where most IT jobs are concentrated in Paris, with few opportunities outside the city.

The UK has a stronger IT infrastructure than Germany, with no language barrier. However, since Brexit, the UK economy has declined, and there are fewer jobs and limited sponsorship opportunities. Getting PR in the UK is also nightmare tier for non-EU citizens.

The US has the highest wages and earnings potential, but healthcare and education are costly. The US is ideal for overachievers, hustlers or people are extremely talented as its strong, diverse economy provides limitless opportunities.

For those looking for work-life balance and government benefits and those who aren't geniuses, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands are better

German rap sucks, I tried to listen to German rappers but it didn't work, that cunt Gzuz has only 2 listenable songs and the rest sound like early 2000s crap, and then that monkey Luciano speaks English throughout half of his songs and in the other half he hardly says anything.
