What I hated was having to memorize the damn "Der" "Die" "Das" "Dem" etc. You guys can't just use "the" instead of having genders for every fricking object.

I think both French and German both equally have their wtf moments. I don't know German, but I know for a fact that "Was ist das?" is much easier for an English native to say and understand at first than "Qu'est-ce que c'est?" (jfl "what is what that is") is.

in dutch its "de" or "het" but theres no real rule behind it, you just gotta memorise if ur learning it

we also have "die", but this doesnt mean: "the" but more "that one"
