If you guys are doing any kind of surgery you should get a CBCT scan it's extremely useful if you know what you're looking for

Even if it's a rhinoplasty as it allows you to see your soft tissue nose properly as well as the internal structure without any lens distortion or camera tricks

Don't just limit it to orthognathic surgery, there are so many more things you can do with a 3D copy of your face and skull

If you want a reference for CBCT just contact any maxillofacial clinic and bait them into giving you a referral by pretending to do a consult but saying you don't have a scan

Do NOT pay them for the consult unless you actually wanna do surgery with them

Some surgeons still use lateral cephalogram for bimax, my advice still holds up

if you have diagnosed airway or jaw issues you might be able to have insurance cover the scan. rawdogging it is a few hundred ive seen figures from 200-500 usd.

Im interested on i need to ask for a certain type or settings on it as well. they told me id be receiving a flash drive with the files on it

From the frontal bone to the hyoid and posteriorly to the mastoid process of the temporal bone is enough

Try to allign yourself in the Frankfurt Horizontal Plane (tell the person taking your scan to help you orient properly) and keep your eyes open

The intention of this thread is that CBCTs aren't just for bimax it can be used for much more

Should be gold standard for analysis for 90% of hardmaxxes

I asked the dentist nigga what to do with that shit and he said only the surgeon will be able to open the flashdrive cuz it needs a special software. Idk how to open it or anything. Also i got this referral after going to orthodontist and telling them about my tmj problems(when i fully open my mouth my jaw clicks out of place from both sides) and the fact that i have some posterior crossbite.

Also if i were to unzip the file or whatever I wouldnt know how to send it or whatver shit

It's a CBCT scan

Upload the drive to your computer extract it and take the raw DICOM files and upload them to an application to view said CBCT scan

Ah yes, I remember fondly what an endeavor getting my first scan done was. Long games of email tag w the maxfac’s team (who was from the States to not seem suspish), prospecting various imaging centers around town to see who would not only take out of pocket payment but would also likely be anonymous from anyone who knew me, having to come up with some fuck ass excuse to the receptionist and tech as to why I was getting the scan done

This second time around I just dgaf anymore. Straight up went to my childhood ortho, sent em the referral pdf that is clearly from a foreign country and said “Yup I need this done for an elective procedure. Indeed I will be traveling overseas for this. Take my money please?” The look of WTF on the receptionist’s face was hilarious but they obliged
