Getting DJS- BSSO, Lefort 1, Genioplasty, does surgeon matter?

I have a skeletal discrepancy so these surgeries are covered under my insurance with only a 8,000 USD copay. Does surgeon matter for these types of surgeries Should I go to a specific surgeon? I do not want to leave gains on the table. I would want someone covered under my insurance. I live in Florida.

The surgeon obv matters quite a lot prolly more than anything else

I’m goin to Walline at LACOMS in la n they don’t take insurance but since the procedure is deemed medically necessary my insurance will (hopefully) still pay a majority

I recommend trying to do smt similar to me unless u can find a diamond in the rough esque surgeon in network but good luck w that as it’s not an easy surgery in the slightest

In terms of ones close to u and in network talk to ur ortho and dentist and other providers ask around n see what ppl say

Also u can just call ur insurance n find all the people who take ur insurance they should have a list of some kind

But I personally would only go to a top surgeon if u wanna stay in US like me so either Walline or Gunson imo Bobek is also good and cheaper

Do some surgeons focus primarily on achieving functional correction and end up leaving potential aesthetic improvements on the table that could have been achieved at the same time?

Yes surgeon matters. Depends on your goals though. Not everyone needs a top surgeon. My recession is minor so I didn't end up going with one of the elite surgeons so that I could do the surgery near where I live rather than travel. My guy seems pretty good still, mind you

For a lot of people the main fear is getting a conservative surgeon that will leave them still objectively recessed. In my case the recession is so minor that that only way I'm getting underadvanced is if the surgeon forgets to show up.

Meanwhile for others even big movements (think 15mm total pog movement) aren't enough, they need truly insane movements. A lot of underadvancement cases are really just severe class IIs who needed a madman to give them 2cm+. I think the average surgeon is capable of handling most cases tho, most people aren't really that recessed
