Glycine is a non-essential (produced by the body) amino acid that can be found in almost all proteins. It has a sweetish taste, which is why it is used as a flavour enhancer in foods (e.g. sweetener tablets or marzipan). In the nervous system it acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter (= messenger substance with an inhibitory effect), besides GABA it is one of the most important signal substances of this category.

Studies:
In the 2006 research, participants were given 3g of glycine or a placebo drug. Patients reported an increased quality of sleep, in addition they felt more alive and perceived their thoughts more clearly.

Study number two of 2007 was also conducted with 3g glycine. Repeatedly, an increased quality of sleep and additionally shorter time to fall asleep was reported. All user noted reduced fatigue (during the day) and improved memory performance in cognitive tasks. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1479-8425.2007.00262.x

A glycine-supplement definitely makes sense if you have difficulties with sleep duration and quality and also want to feel more productive during daytime. A better quality of sleep also has a great influence on looks, for example it leads to an increased release of HGH.
