According to the gnostics Sophia made a mistake creating the demiurge and banished to the unknown where there demiurge started creating its own creations.

The demiurge tried to create the first human Adam but is was mere a shell of a human in its attempt to replicate the purity of light from the plethora. Sophia then saw this and feeling guilty for its mistake breathed life into Adam.
