Well the goal of using a knife or gun is to kill, that's the only reason why you go to jail, because you took someone's life. If you decide to use you're fists and manage to kill someone with it, you'll get the same punishment you would have if you used a knife or gun. It depends on what you want to do, hurt or kill.
