I agree to some extent and have only recently started to think of using it as a tool. Looks don't matter if no one's exposed to you, for you to capitalize on it.

I think a lot of it happens from adding people you already know and then instagram suggests people that they know, who will most likely be people in your area.

My biggest problem with just making an instagram is that I would have a lack of content to post. I'm probably making a bigger deal of it then I should be, since I looked at some sample instas and most of the guys aren't posting anything crazy or all that frequently. But, I don't want to be posting selfies 24/7, just to have content to post.
