I think it’s safe to say now that surgery didn’t work. Doctors can’t figure out my problems. And even if they did insurance wouldn’t cover solutions because my condition is rare and unrecognized. Parents won’t pay for shit out of pocket because they don’t care.

A year and a half since my first sleep disorder diagnosis. My depression and suicidal thoughts went away because I finally thought I was on the road to fixing myself. Now after so much time walking down this road it feels like I’m right back where I started, and as of today the depression and suicidal thoughts are back too.

Ahhhhhhhhhh c’est la vie

Parents walk by and don’t notice the pain I’m in. No surprise, when have they ever payed attention? I don’t even have enough oxy left to die.

Yes that’s why I’m here. Found this place while researching jaw surgery and sleep apnea back in 2019 and I’m still here bc I can barely do anything but rot

Mild sleep apnea officially but my symptoms don’t line up with that all. Different in both severity and the nature of the symptoms themselves. My unofficial(not recognized by insurance companies) is upper airway resistance syndrome.

Sleep apnea=you get deep sleep, obstruction occurs, oxygen levels drop, you come out of deep sleep.

UARS=airway is already compromised in some way so you don’t get deep sleep in the first place. Also part of why I have struggled so much dealing with doctors, since I don’t get deep enough sleep to have obstruction long enough for my oxygen levels to drop, so it doesn’t show up in a sleep study. It wasn’t until my third sleep study that I even showed mild sleep apnea.

Doctors don’t know what’s going on bc generally speaking, mild sleep apnea means you’re totally fine, just might be at risk in the future as you get older and fatter. Instead I sleep like 10+ hours nightly, wake up extremely groggy and laughably flaccid, then go about my day in a state of crippling brain fog and fatigue.

Today for example, I woke up at noon after sleeping 12 hours, spent another hour in bed on my phone waking up, sat out in the sun listening to yt for half an hour, took a shower, got back in bed for a nap and to chill for another 2-3 hours, moved to the couch, had dinner, walked the dog for an hour, then spent the rest of the night on the couch. That’s a typical day for me as someone who grew up very ambitious and 99.9th on all my tests, good looking, athletic.

I’m fucked bc all these doctors can’t even comprehend my situation because apparently they’ve never seen or heard of anything like it. And naturally my parents, aka the money since I can hardly work, take the word of these doctors over their own son.

I can eat, drink, and my voice is almost back to normal. What are the odds that the last 10 or so percent of residual swelling is the only thing holding me back from good sleep?

They said full recovery is 3 weeks and it’s been two and a half

Right, the one doctor I’ve met who seems to know what he’s talking about is a research doctor all the way in Cali who studied at Harvard and Stanford. His practice doesn’t even accept insurance bc he treats outside the parameters those companies give. Great guy. Offered me the tonsillectomy for 50% off if I couldn’t get insurance coverage. Guess I’ll be hitting him up again.

Have you tried shit like cpap. It doesnt work for me because my palate is too narrow to accomodate my tongue and it just falls back into my throat but if you dont have any malocclussion it could be worth it to give it a shot.

I’ve tried cpap for months with little to no success, even on ambien. I had 3 nights ever where I tolerated the mask through a whole 6 hours and the difference was massive but one night out of a month and many nights of insomnia trying to fall asleep with the mask is a shit trade off.

I believe that tongue base collapse is my issue now as well. Prior to getting my tonsils out and still now, moving my tongue back and down the slightest bit is enough to totally block my airways. Not sure if it’s because my palate is too narrow(it is) or because my jaws are recessed(they are) but either way I think my tongue needs more space and needs to be pulled forward with genio

Go to ortho then it sounds like you might have some malocclussion going on. Also dont lose hope because there are very few things that can cause this type of shit and all of them can be fixed surgically :feelsokman:
Also genioplasty is a purely cosmetical procedure that moves the part of your chin forward. I think you meant BSSO

I also don’t have malocclusion. Your plan to stop tongue base collapse is to widen palate?
