Ok here's my personal advice (I'm not responsible for anything you're going to do or see on the DW):

1. Get a laptop not your personal one btw (preferably one dating before 2008 but it's not necessary)

2. Take an usb stick with at least 8 gb (or something bigger I don't remember) and flash Tails (it's an operating system) on it using a software like balena etcher. You can download Tails from internet (you need a .iso file)

3. Shutdown your pc and plug your usb containing Tails then start your pc (you may need to go in the bios to change the booting sequence (it's just a thing where you say that you want your pc to start your usb Tails first then windows) and you may also need to disable safe boot (because it wont reconize Tails as a standard os like Windows/Unix-based ones)

4. You should see that there's a black screen with different options, just select the one with less description (generally the first one)

5. The rest is just Tails configuration like putting a login password, changing language (keep it to english), changing keyboard layout (keep it english too), installing additional content (don't add anything extra). Try to be the less identifyable possible when configuring Tails for the first time (also keep Tor browser not in fullscreen mode and try to change the browser options (don't change settings like language etc) to the safest possible settings and disable anything related to tracking or javascript, I forgot to mention to use a obsf4 bridge to mask that you're using Tor to your internet service provider).

That's all I had to say also don't use VPN and always make sure to have javascript disabled for the sake of god (you want to avoid remote script execution from random people on the DW) and never donwload anything (even if you know it's just an image etc), I forgot to mention that it's preferable not using your home internet connection but a public one (hotel etc). I sincerely hope that this knowledge won't be used to look at child pornography otherwise just rope.

let me be clear, everything that has been said is fine and good advice but it needs context.

virtual machines are a computer that you install on your pc that runs in a separate environment from your main system, its good if you want to be safe and dont make some random mistake and give all your pc data to a random iranian hacker. if you are not talking to anyone and not downloading anything and dont really have personal info on your pc already. dont use it its just a pain in the ass to set it up for a beginner.

mullvad vpn: its a very good vpn its paid but you get what you pay for. its good bc its completally anonymus from the payment to the service, no logs needed. the thing is that tor already had its own encrypted technology and your wifi provider cant see what you are doing on tor he can only see that you are on tor, which is not a problem if you live on a democratic country that have strong privacy laws (canada, uk, all of eu, australia...) you probably dont need mullvad unless if tor is restricted in your country or illegal like russia or china or sumthing. it makes your isp not see that you using tor, not a big deal.

disable javascript on the tor settings.

for buying. only use crypto like monero or btc. nothing else. dont buy through tor its a big redflag.
dont make it deliver to your house make it deliver to an abandonned house in your city or something.
